Ayitic Goes Global Launches Three Courses in Haiti
26/04/2018
This May, Ayitic Goes Global, the online training and digital employment project promoted by LACNIC and Canada’s International Development Research Centre (IDRC), will begin offering three courses aimed at Haitian women and technical experts.
These training programs for women seek to create the conditions needed to increase their access to the digital employment market. Likewise, the courses for technical experts and professionals are designed to strengthen the skills of the local technical community and their leadership in strengthening Haitian Internet infrastructure.
These technical courses will be offered online and will have a duration of twelve weeks. One of the courses will focus on network management and has been developed by Mariela Rocha; another will address Internet security and has been designed by Ernesto Pérez. Fifty students and ICT professionals selected after an application process will participate in this first round of courses.
Participants will access the courses through the Thess platform provided by Ecole Superieure d’infotronique d’Haiti, LACNIC’s local partner in the Ayitic project.
Likewise, the courses for women have been designed by the Caribbean Open Institute based on the results of the research conducted by Ayitic. These courses will focus on developing competences in line with potential online employment opportunities identified in the research, noted Carolina Caeiro, Cooperation Project Coordinator at LACNIC.
The course will offer two specializations. The first of these specializations – Internet Practitioner – is geared towards jobs where employees need to know how to use and browse the Internet to complete digital micro jobs (for example, publishing information on social media). The other specialization is known as Data Practitioner and is geared towards jobs involving database management.
The content of these courses will be available in English, French and Haitian Creole.
Fifty women aged 18 to 29 who have completed high school and are part of the most vulnerable sectors of the Haitian economy are expected to participate in this first round of training courses. Facilitators will be available to help women complete these courses, which will also include face-to-face meetings at Ecole Superieure d’infotronique d’Haiti.
Between 2018 and 2019, Ayitic plans to launch three editions of the three courses through which the program expects to train 300 women for online employment and 150 technicians in network development and security.
