Results of the LACNIC Board Elections

LACNIC members voted and have elected Evandro Varonil (Brazil), Alejandro Guzmán (Colombia) and Julián Esteban Lescano Cameriere (Argentina) to fill the three positions on the LACNIC Board which will become vacant on 31 December.

Varonil, Guzmán and Lescano were elected among 10 candidates running for a position on the LACNIC Board. A total of 1,935 votes were received from among the 7,691 organizations eligible to vote in the 33 territories that are part of the LACNIC service region.

After the voting period, LACNIC’s Electoral Commission confirmed that the three elected candidates will each serve on the LACNIC Board of Directors for a three-year term starting on 1st January 2019 and finalizing on 31st December 2021.

Three Profiles. Varonil’s background is in Data processing technology, which he studied at Facultad de Tecnología de Americana (FATEC) and he also has an MBA in Information Technology Management from Anhanguera. He is currently director of operations at Fasternet and director of ABRANET (the Brazilian Internet Association) and SEINESP (the Union of Internet Companies of the State of São Paulo).

Guzmán, who has been serving on the LACNIC Board since 2010, is director of interconnection at Google. He studied Electronic Engineering and holds a postgraduate degree in Telecommunications from Universidad Pontificia Bolivariana. He was a founder, a member of the executive committee and director of organizations such as NAP Colombia, NAP Inca of Peru, LACIX, LACNOG, and the NRO-AC/ASO.

In turn, Lescano is a lawyer with a degree from Universidad Austral, has a Master’s degree in Business Rights from Francisco de Vitoria University in Madrid, Spain and a Master’s degree in Business Administration from the Universidad Austral in Argentina. He has been director of the Legal and Public Policy Commission at CABASE (the Argentine Internet Chamber) for eight years, where he actively participates in all policy, legislative and regulatory initiatives related to Internet development and promotion in Argentina and the region. He was one of the region’s three representatives to the CRISP Team, the group responsible for producing the proposal for the transition of the IANA functions’ stewardship.
