Members of the Board of Directors of the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) decided to join the Latin American and Caribbean community on the occasion of the LACNIC 28 meeting in the city of Montevideo and hold their private workshop on dates close to the event.

These directors took advantage of this visit to conduct different meetings —both formal and informal— at Casa de Internet for Latin America and the Caribbean, home to nine regional Internet organizations led and hosted by LACNIC in a very functional and attractive office space on the Montevideo waterfront, overlooking the River Plate.

The formal and friendly relationships between the two organizations are a key factor in regional Internet stability, security and resilience, as mutual trust among the people who ultimately manage and operate essential resources is definitely of vital importance, both for the daily operation of the Internet as well as for its advancement.

This week’s meetings allowed further strengthening the ties between both organizations, connecting organizational and personal cultures, valuing each other’s work, and building trust and mutual knowledge. All this supports the common goal of maintaining an open, cooperative, stable and secure Internet.
