Warming up Our IPv6 Engines
31/01/2012
The Regional IPv6 Week is a coordinated test of the new Internet protocol that will be held from February 6 to 12.
This regional initiative which originated in NIC Brazil (www.nic.br) and is supported by LACNIC and the Internet Society involves providers in almost every country in Latin America and the Caribbean. It is an open test in which anyone can participate, even from other parts of the world. Major companies and organizations such as, among many others, Telefónica, Terra , Globo, IG, KingHost, UOL and USP have already signed up for the Regional IPv6 Week.
During IPv6 Week various websites will enable IPv6 on their servers, operating with both IPv4 and IPv6 protocols.
ISPs will offer IPv6 connectivity to some residential and corporate users for testing purposes.
End users with either native or tunneled IPv6 connectivity in their homes or businesses will also participate, helping verify the operation of IPv6-enabled services. Different activities, contests and prizes have been planned for the week.
Faced with the exhaustion of IPv4 addresses, IPv6 is the only possible solution for the future of the Internet.
