In recent weeks, LACNIC has been working on updating our organizational structure. This change impacts several areas, teams, and individuals, which is why we believe it’s important to share it with you.
Starting 1st November, we will implement a new functional structure designed to better leverage the diverse capabilities of the people who make up LACNIC. The goals of this reorganization are to strengthen our technical leadership in the region, improve the services we provide to our broad and diverse community, and continue advancing key issues such as transparency and information security.
This change also reaffirms our focus on our members, placing their needs and the value we deliver to our membership base at the center, while consolidating LACNIC’s technical leadership in the region, essential for supporting Internet development in Latin America and the Caribbean.

LACNIC’s New Functional Structure (effective 1st November 2025)
Strengthening Our Technical Leadership
Carlos Martínez, currently Chief Technology Officer at LACNIC, will take on a newly created role: Chief Technology Strategist. In this role, Carlos will contribute his knowledge and experience in Internet technologies and standards to the organization, advising the Executive Director, supporting the various operational departments, and collaborating on the technical coordination of global issues. He will also take on a very special challenge: contributing to the training and development of new Internet technical leaders, both within the LACNIC team and across our community.

In turn, Juan Carlos Alonso will assume the role of CTO, ensuring the continued excellence in the operation of LACNIC’s technical services. Juan Carlos currently serves as Head of IT Operations and has a well-recognized track record within the organization, which fully supports his transition to this new role.
Efficiency in the Organizational Strategy
To further integrate the work of the different areas and ensure a more robust management, we have created a unit within the Executive Management focused on strengthening strategic actions and organizational resilience. This Strategy and Organizational Development Unit will be headed by Diego Mena, who will assume the role of Chief Strategy Officer (CSO) and will collaborate with the various teams on strategic management, with particular emphasis on information security, transparency, and risk management.
The Administration and Finance Department will be led by Carina García, who will now take on greater responsibility while contributing to LACNIC’s ongoing growth.
Preparing for the Future
This functional adaptation involves several departments and people, though in most cases their roles and objectives will remain unchanged. However, these adjustments create new opportunities for the team’s growth and development, while strengthening LACNIC as a more resilient and strategically efficient organization, fully aligned with our mission and vision.
This is how we prepare for the coming years: a stronger organization, one that is focused on creating value for our members and consolidating our increasingly relevant technical role in the region.
This reorganization provides us with renewed momentum that ensures we will continue to serve our community with excellence.
