Updates to the IPv6 tutorial at LACNIC 39
March 28, 2023

The IPv6 tutorial scheduled for LACNIC 39 comes with updates. The experts Alejandro Acosta, Uesley Correa, and Jose Cotua will be leading the IPv6-Only course, which is scheduled to take place on May 8 at the event in Merida, Mexico. This course is expected to be a valuable training opportunity for network engineers.
The workshop will cover IPv6-only networking concept, covering from NAT64/DNS64 to IPv6 networks in 10GPON, including SIIT-DC. According to Acosta, the workshop will consist of theoretical explanations for each topic, as well as live practical demonstrations.
The training on NAT64/DNS64 and IPv4 prefix routing in IPv6-only networks (using RFC 8950 and without tunnels or MPLS) will be conducted by LACNIC’s expert. SIIT-DC will be taught by Correa, and Cotua will provide a live demonstration of IPv6 provisioning to 10GPON networks.
This topic is precisely one of the great highlights of the tutorial. “It is a current and necessary topic in connection with IPv6 and the growth of 10GPON networks worldwide,” Acosta added.

TRAINING
The workshop will address two crucial topics: NAT64/DNS64 and IPv4 prefix routing in IPv6 networks.
The first topic will be key to understand most of the course as it will provide a detailed description of how NAT64/DNS64 operates within networks, in addition to outlining its strengths and weaknesses. Once the theoretical content has been completed, there will be a live demo of this mechanism.
