The Strength of IPv6
19/12/2018
In 2018, IPv6 deployment is still in the process of consolidation in Latin America and the Caribbean. This year, Brazil — a country with a penetration rate of 27.5%, second in the region only to Uruguay with 31.5%— managed to double the number of end users compared to 2017.
IPv6 Webinar. To celebrate IPv6 Day, LACNIC organized a four-hour webinar to present examples of good practices for this protocol and share tools and initiatives for its implementation in the countries of the region.
On Tour. LACNIC considers IPv6 deployment to be strategic for the development of Internet connectivity as well as for connecting millions of users that remain unconnected. This year, LACNIC CEO Oscar Robles paid high-level visits to operators, governments, regulators, educational institutions and service providers in Guatemala, Honduras and El Salvador with the aim of promoting IPv6 deployment in Central America. Likewise, Robles also visited Belize seeking to accelerate plans for IPv6 deployment in that country.
A Challenge Well Met. Universidad Autónoma de Yucatán of Mexico, which participated for the third time in this contest created by LACNIC’s R&D department to promote IPv6 deployment in Latin America and the Caribbean, was the winner of the 2018 edition of the IPv6 challenge.
