LACNIC Events: A Meeting Point for the Regional Internet Community

By Carolina Badano – Communications Coordinator

In their constant efforts to lead the construction of the regional community, LACNIC organizes two annual events where the Internet community comes together to talk, discuss, and learn.

Since 2000, when we held our first event in the city of Buenos Aires, Argentina (LACNIC I), we have traveled to different locations in Latin America and the Caribbean, as we believe that exchange is the pillar of strengthening our technical capabilities.

There are many who have accompanied us throughout these years, and every year there are also many who participate for the first time in our events. We would like to tell these new participants what LACNIC events are about, and why it is worthwhile to participate.

LACNIC events are regional gathering places for multistakeholder dialogue, high-level technical training, and discussion about the present and future of the Internet. Generally, more than 800 participants from different countries in the region, who work professionally in ISPs and companies related to information technologies, universities and educational institutions, NGOs, civil society, governments, among others, attend the meeting either in-person or online.

What Can You Do at an Event?

First of all, if you are planning to participate for the first time, we recommend you join the New Participants session, which usually takes place at the beginning of each event. You will obtain relevant information to make the most out of your experience.
