Keynote Speakers and Panels on the Regional Community at LACNIC31

LACNIC 31 will be hosted by the Dominican Institute of Telecommunications (INDOTEL) and will take place at the Barceló Bávaro Beach Convention Center in Punta Cana on 6-10 May.
The event will include tutorials and panels with renowned speakers who will address topics such as IPv4 exhaustion, major challenges to IPv6 adoption in the region, security, and many others.
Computer Security Incident Management. The LACNIC31 event will be co-located with the FIRST Regional Conference, a meeting of the leading global computer security incident response organization.
Organized jointly with LACNIC and CERT.br as co-host, the conference will feature three days of activities with the presence of international experts and leading organizations such as Kaspersky, Farsight and Abusix, among others.
Wednesday 8 May will be the first day of activities and will receive the plenary session. Participants will address topics related to Security Incident Management, address the regional situation and present real-life incidents. In addition, there will be a session on how MANRS can help with incident management and another on alternatives for implementing a CSIRT depending on each type of organization.
The second and third days (9 and 10 May) will be devoted to training courses that will be presented in Spanish. The courses on Network Forensics Fundamentals and DDoS Mitigation Fundamentals will be presented by Javier Berciano, head of the cybersecurity incident response department at Spain’s National Cybersecurity Institute (INCIBE-CERT) and member of the FIRST Board of Directors.

Keynote Speakers. Radia Perlman, an American engineer known as “the mother of the Internet” for her discovery that gave the final boost to the Ethernet back in the 80s, will be one of the keynote speakers at the LACNIC 31 event.
Creator of the Spanning Tree Protocol (STP) which allowed moving from just a few hundred connected computers to a network of thousands and then millions of devices 40 years ago, Perlman will give present her Thoughts on the Internet at LACNIC 31.
In her presentation, the American programmer will address the positive transformations that the Internet has brought to our society (global market, Wikipedia) as well as its negative effects (scams, polarized societies, fake news).
Her lecture will also focus on technical issues (networking, TCP/IP, IPv6) and will address the contrasts between theory and practice in cases of DNS certification.
Keynote speakers also include Charlie Kaufman, an expert in Internet security, a field in which he has been working for more than 25 years and holds more than 50 patents.
Technical Forum and Panels. The event program includes the LACNIC Technical Forum, a space for the community to share and discuss Internet technologies and technical implementations. This year, the Forum will welcome regional experts and their keynote presentations.
The program also includes panels on LACNIC and the LACNIC community. The first of these panels will share IPv6 deployment cases, the installation of root server copies, the promotion of national CSIRTs, and the strengthening of regional IXPs. During the second panel, winners of the FRIDA program, Ayitic Goes Global training program participants, LACNIC on the Move attendees, and LACNIC Campus students will share their experiences.
To mark the 50th anniversary of the first electronic message ever sent in 1969, LACNIC 31 will also host a panel on Internet Pioneers. Regional pioneers will meet in Punta Cana in advance of the conference that will take place in Montevideo in the month of October.
