Interview with Lito Ibarra, the Father of the Internet in El Salvador
30/11/2020
Lito Ibarra is an enthusiastic, friendly, warm and atypical character. This man, who is considered the “Father of the Internet in El Salvador” for promoting and achieving the first Internet connection on December 14, 1995, is so singular that he doesn’t even use a cell phone.
His work during these three decades has awarded him the LACNIC 2020 Lifetime Achievement Award for promoting Internet development in his country and the region.
In a long talk with Franco Micalizzi, Lito Ibarra shares how he managed to bring the Internet to El Salvador and ponders the importance of reducing the digital divide, the exceptional value of the Internet during the pandemic, and even his personal hobbies and interests.
