LACNIC 29 Comes with Great News

Registration is open for the LACNIC 29 event which will take place in Panama from 30 April to 4 May.

The first LACNIC meeting of the year will bring together the most important experts and representatives of academia, civil society, the private sector, governments, and telecommunications industry professionals.

The meeting will be hosted by the Panamanian National Agency for Government Innovation (AIG), an active partner of LACNIC for Internet development in Central America.

This year, the challenge will be to face the immediate future after IPv4 exhaustion. The debate will see world level experts meet in Latin America and the Caribbean. Furthermore, the LACNIC Technical Forum (FTL) will be held for the first time. Participants of this new space will share their experiences, work and initiatives related to technical aspects of Internet development within the region. Based on the level of proposals received by the Program Committee, the first edition of the FTL promises exciting debates.

Just like in 2017, technical tutorials will take place along the week, so participants will be able to attend those of their greatest interest.  The topics are the following: Advanced IPv6, IPv6 for Decision Makers, BGP and RPKI, Peering, Number Resource Assignment, and a hands-on Policy Proposal tutorial, among others.

Another highlight of this meeting will be the new Peering Forum format (, which will change to be in line with other peering/interconnection events carried out in other regions. This time the event will last a full day and will be divided between half-day of conferences and half-day of working meetings to negotiate interconnection agreements.

The aim of this activity is to promote and provide collaborative spaces on topics related to network interconnection, Internet exchange point operators, CDNs, transport capacity, and interconnection centers, among others. The call for presentations is still open and those interested in participating can send their proposals until 23 March to the following email address:

Incident Response Symposium. LACNIC 29 will be special because this will be the first time LACNIC will host a FIRST Symposium. This event will take place on Tuesday 1st and Wednesday 2nd May. FIRST, the global Forum for Incident Response and Security Teams, is an organization formed by Internet emergency response groups of more than 360 corporations, government agencies, universities, and other institutions of 78 different countries.

The aim of the symposium is to foster cooperation and coordination in incident prevention to encourage a quick incident reaction to promote the exchange of information among LACNIC members, FIRST, and the community in general.

Aimed at security experts and those responsible for Latin American and Caribbean CSIRTs, the Symposium will have a first training day and a second plenary day of presentations and conferences.
