Attractive Presentation Offerings at LACNIC 36 LACNOG 2021
30/09/2021
LACNOG, the Latin American and Caribbean Network Operators Group, has finalized its program for the LACNIC 36 LACNOG 2021 event.
The program covers a wide variety of topics, ranging from a presentation on an Internet resilience measurement project that ISOC is carrying out in Africa, to one by Anahí Rebatta on regional connectivity, one of the most anticipated presentations scheduled for LACNOG because of the amount of data collected by the study. Rebatta’s presentation will discuss the increase in investments in subsea infrastructure over the past five years, IXs in the LAC region, as well as backhaul prices.
The program also includes four short presentations. First, Nicolas Fiumarelli will talk about Internet of Things (IoT) protocols at the Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF), providing an overview of the work on IoT deployment and technologies that is being carried out at the IETF, as well as security and privacy aspects of the underlying protocols.
Next, Fernando Gont will share his research on the operational implications of IPv6 extension headers. Gont will try to analyze the reasons why packets with IPv6 extension headers are often lost while traversing the public Internet.
Emanuel Serrano of University of Yucatán will then present the actions undertaken by a network operator participating in the MANRS initiative and share the experience they have gained through the changes they have introduced.
Finally, Alejandro Acosta will present “Bye-Bye NATmeter,” an initiative created by LACNIC in 2018 to measure how widespread NAT (NAT44 and NAT 66) was among end users. The project ran for over a year and was extremely successful.
LACNOG 2021 participants will also be able to attend a presentation by Ron Bonica of Juniper on improving ping and traceroute, two well-known tools frequently used when troubleshooting network issues, and another by Roland Dobbins of NetScout, who will provide an update of what has been going on during the pandemic in terms of security.
Holy Grail. Tiago Setti will present his work titled “The Holy Grail of Optical Transport,” which will discuss the 400ZR standard, the new reality in DWDM DCI systems. According to Setti, when implemented with open interoperability, network operators have access to a revolutionary data transport technology.
The program also includes research by Lucas Salvatierra and Sergio Uncos on vulnerability management and the processes for identifying, classifying, prioritizing, remediating, and mitigating software vulnerabilities. The presentation will seek to support computer security engineers over the entire vulnerability management cycle, from vulnerability identification and classification to remediation through patch management.
In addition, the LACNOG program includes two panels: “Elements No Network Should Do Without” and “The Daily Life of a Network Operator”
