Automation is transforming the way networks are designed, managed, and operated. As infrastructure becomes increasingly complex, automating processes can allow more agile responses and reduce repetitive tasks.
However, new questions also arise: Which processes can be automated? How can these tools be integrated into existing operations? What are the challenges of moving toward increasingly autonomous networks?
The Autonomous Networks: Automation for Greater Agility panel will be one of the sessions dedicated to exploring these issues and sharing experiences about the use of automation in network operations with the goal of building networks that are more efficient, scalable, and ready to address the challenges facing our region.
IPv6: New Deployment Scenarios
IPv6 deployment remains central to Internet development.
This time, we will feature a keynote presentation by Jen Linkova, a network engineer at Google and a driver of IPv6-only adoption. On Monday, Jen will participate in the Toward the Definitive Transition to IPv6-Only Networks tutorial, alongside experts Uesley Correa, José Cotúa, and Alejandro Acosta of LACNIC.
On Tuesday, she will also give a presentation addressing common myths surrounding IPv6 and the practical aspects involved in its deployment in complex enterprise networks. Additionally, she will analyze how modern operating systems function when IPv4 is completely disabled.
RPKI and BGP: How to Strengthen Routing Security
Routing security will also play a prominent role in the event, with sessions dedicated to RPKI, BGP, and other aspects of secure Internet operations. Leading experts will explain the main threats and incidents affecting BGP including route hijacking and route leaks and discuss the practices and technologies available to prevent and detect them, as well as to mitigate their impact.
We will also offer a hands-on lab on monitoring BGP advertisements, starting with a manual review and moving on to an introduction to automation engines for RPKI configuration, along with the use of filters to help mitigate attacks.
LACNOG, Policy Discussions and Incident Response
LACNOG 2026, theLatin American and Caribbean Network Operators Group, will offer sessions featuring technical presentations and lightning talks.
The Public Policy Forum, a space for discussing the rules or policies governing the administration of Internet resources, will be held on Wednesday, 21 October. If you haven’t already done so, we invite you to subscribe to the mailing list to participate in this process.
Security and incident response specialists will gather at the FIRST Regional Symposium for Latin America & the Caribbean, which will feature both presentations and training sessions. To participate in this activity, you must also register here.
A Week to Connect with the Regional Community
In addition to presentations and tutorials, LACNIC 46 LACNOG 2026 will offer the chance to meet colleagues, operators, specialists, and organizations from across the region and promote networking opportunities. To facilitate these interactions, LACNIC provides CONECTA, a tool that allows you to exchange messages with other participants. Click here for more information.
The event can be attended in person in Mendoza or remotely. Simultaneous interpretation in Spanish, English, and Portuguese will be provided to facilitate participation from the regional community.
Check out the full LACNIC 46 program and register to participate.
See you in Mendoza!
