LACNIC Releases New Version of FORT with Support for ASPA Objects

Cybersecurity is constantly evolving and RPKI is no exception. This year, LACNIC has been working to bring the community the latest in this technology: ASPA objects.
ASPAs (Autonomous System Provider Authorizations) are a type of digitally signed objects within the RPKI infrastructure designed to secure the BGP routing protocol. Their main purpose is to prevent route leaks and mitigate traffic hijacking by validating the entire routing path, complementing the protection already provided by the well-established ROA objects.
As part of this effort, we recently released version 1.7.0 of our FORT Validator. This new version implements ASPA object validation, which allows the validator to process objects that are already present in some RPKI repositories and share this information with routers so they can make better routing decisions.

It should be noted that ASPA has not been officially published as a standard and may still undergo some changes. This is why we have marked this new feature as experimental, so those who wish to start understanding how this new RPKI object works and using it can begin to do so, as it is one of the most significant changes in recent years and aims to solve one of the most critical problems in global routing.
