Ernesto Majó Takes on the Role of CEO at LACNIC: 20 Years of Commitment and Leadership

For Ernesto Majó, his appointment as LACNIC CEO represents the acknowledgment of a 20-year journey of growth and learning in the realm of the Internet and within the organization.

At the age of 56, having held various positions and contributed across multiple areas, he has taken on this new challenge with the aim of strengthening LACNIC’s legacy and consolidating it as a key player in regional Internet development.

“I arrived at LACNIC almost by chance, but my journey has not been straightforward. I began by coordinating the FRIDA program, and, over time, I took on new responsibilities. Opportunities came my way because I was prepared, and the organization was preparing me as well,” Majó reflects on his time at LACNIC.

A Path of Growth

From his early days at LACNIC, Majó was both a witness and a protagonist in the growth of the organization, which evolved from a small team to a well-established structure with various departments. His role as deputy CEO provided him with a broader understanding of institutional challenges and the importance of collaboration with other stakeholders in the Internet ecosystem.

“One of the most important moments in my career was stepping into the role of interim CEO in 2014. It was a turning point where I realized I could contribute from a role of greater responsibility,” he notes.

Challenges in the New Role

After assuming leadership of the organization, Majó recognizes that his main challenge is to consolidate the work that has been done, maintain levels of excellence, and ensure that the team continues to operate with collaboration, trust, and a focus on our members and the community.

“We will continue on our path focused on fulfilling our institutional role, in alignment with our Board of Directors and the community. Additionally, we must remain vigilant about the global challenges faced by the Internet. In our region, there is a significant level of collaboration between members, the community, and governments. However, it is essential to continue working to ensure that the Internet ecosystem functions in every region,” he stressed.
