26/02/2025

For Ernesto Majó, his appointment as LACNIC CEO represents the acknowledgment of a 20-year journey of growth and learning in the realm of the Internet and within the organization.
At the age of 56, having held various positions and contributed across multiple areas, he has taken on this new challenge with the aim of strengthening LACNIC’s legacy and consolidating it as a key player in regional Internet development.
“I arrived at LACNIC almost by chance, but my journey has not been straightforward. I began by coordinating the FRIDA program, and, over time, I took on new responsibilities. Opportunities came my way because I was prepared, and the organization was preparing me as well,” Majó reflects on his time at LACNIC.
A Path of Growth
From his early days at LACNIC, Majó was both a witness and a protagonist in the growth of the organization, which evolved from a small team to a well-established structure with various departments. His role as deputy CEO provided him with a broader understanding of institutional challenges and the importance of collaboration with other stakeholders in the Internet ecosystem.
“One of the most important moments in my career was stepping into the role of interim CEO in 2014. It was a turning point where I realized I could contribute from a role of greater responsibility,” he notes.
Challenges in the New Role
After assuming leadership of the organization, Majó recognizes that his main challenge is to consolidate the work that has been done, maintain levels of excellence, and ensure that the team continues to operate with collaboration, trust, and a focus on our members and the community.
“We will continue on our path focused on fulfilling our institutional role, in alignment with our Board of Directors and the community. Additionally, we must remain vigilant about the global challenges faced by the Internet. In our region, there is a significant level of collaboration between members, the community, and governments. However, it is essential to continue working to ensure that the Internet ecosystem functions in every region,” he stressed.
LACNIC Values
Beyond its impact on the Internet community, LACNIC stands out for its focus on people, both within its team and with its members. According to Majó, this is a fundamental value that must be upheld.
“We work as a team, and that is the best way to accomplish our work. Taking care of our well-being as a team and staying connected to the community are essential aspects we must preserve and strengthen,” he observes.
Looking Ahead
Majó emphasizes that LACNIC’s vision must continue to evolve according to the needs of the community and changes in the environment. The organization is currently developing its 2026-2029 strategic plan, a key process for defining the future of LACNIC.
“LACNIC’s original vision was to provide the region with a technical service backed by a broader commitment, and this vision remains relevant. Now, we must adapt our strategy to current and future challenges, ensuring we continue to deliver value to the community,” he says.
Commitment to Evolution and Innovation
Ernesto’s words reflect LACNIC’s commitment to its community. “Our challenge is to maintain our role and to continue to generate value through new projects and initiatives. Today’s needs are different from those of five or ten years ago, and we must be open to new ideas. The strategic planning we are working on allows us to question ourselves, rethink our actions, and find a balance between continuity and innovation.”
With this clear vision and a leadership based on experience and commitment, Ernesto Majó begins a new chapter at the head of LACNIC, with the mission of strengthening the Internet ecosystem in Latin America and the Caribbean.
