First Latin American Internet Society Chair
05/08/2011
Raúl Echeberría, Executive Director of LACNIC, was re-elected as Chair of the Internet Society (ISOC), a position he will hold for another year.
Mr. Echeberría had been appointed to the board in 2008 by the members of ISOC, an organization of which LACNIC is a member.
The appointment of Mr. Echeberría, the first Latin American ISOC Chair, implies a great recognition of LACNIC’s efforts to promote Internet growth and stability in Latin America and the Caribbean as well as its projection and influence within international scenarios.
Founded in 1992 by Internet pioneers, the Internet Society (ISOC), is an international non-profit organization that brings together professionals and organizations from around the world to promote Internet growth and development in benefit of the entire community. In that same spirit, ISOC supports the IETF and the IAB, the forums responsible for developing Internet standards.
