To Ida Holz, President of the Latin American Cooperation of Advanced Networks (CLARA), hosting the region’s main Internet organizations within its headquarters at the Internet Hub for Latin America and the Caribbean is an “act of solidarity” on the part of LACNIC.

In her opinion, this gesture “is an example of what the Internet has been building for a long time, which is solidarity – Latin America as a whole coming together to support a joint project.”

Bringing together all Internet related Latin American organizations legally constituted in Uruguay and with offices in Montevideo will allow “better coordination among the various institutions,” added CLARA’s president.

She also recalled that “a long, long time ago many countries did not have Internet, so our technicians would travel to teach them how to install an Internet node. This was done completely for free, nobody received a penny except for some travel expenses; that’s how the different Latin American academic networks were set up. It is a miracle that, although we are very different now than we were back then, we continue to work together and every country is enthusiastically joining us because of this interrelationship.”
