Nesse contexto, mecanismos como a <strong>Option 108 (IPv6-Only Preferred)<\/strong> definida na RFC 8925, o an\u00fancio de <strong>Pref64<\/strong> via Router Advertisement (RFC 8781) e o modelo <strong>464XLAT<\/strong>, amplamente utilizado em redes m\u00f3veis, passaram a ganhar maior relev\u00e2ncia operacional.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Entretanto, na pr\u00e1tica ainda existe uma confus\u00e3o recorrente entre dois conceitos distintos: <strong>IPv6-mostly<\/strong> e <strong>IPv6-only<\/strong>. Este artigo discute essa diferen\u00e7a conceitual, analisa o papel desses mecanismos e apresenta implica\u00e7\u00f5es pr\u00e1ticas observadas em diferentes sistemas operacionais e ambientes de rede.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>O caminho para redes IPv6-only<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Na abertura da s\u00e9rie <em>Star Trek<\/em>, o espa\u00e7o \u00e9 descrito como <strong>a fronteira final, <\/strong>um territ\u00f3rio ainda em explora\u00e7\u00e3o, onde novas descobertas redefinem os limites do conhecimento.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>De certa forma, a evolu\u00e7\u00e3o das redes IP parece atravessar um momento semelhante. Ap\u00f3s d\u00e9cadas de coexist\u00eancia entre IPv4 e IPv6, a Internet come\u00e7a a se aproximar de uma nova fronteira: o ponto em que arquiteturas baseadas em <strong>IPv6-only<\/strong> deixam de ser apenas experimentos ou implanta\u00e7\u00f5es pontuais e passam a representar um modelo operacional vi\u00e1vel em diferentes ambientes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Nesse cen\u00e1rio surge o conceito de <strong>IPv6-mostly<\/strong>, introduzido pela RFC 8925, somado a mecanismos como a <strong>Option 108<\/strong>, que permite sinalizar aos clientes a prefer\u00eancia pelo uso de IPv6. Ao mesmo tempo, mecanismos como <strong>NAT64<\/strong>, <strong>CLAT<\/strong> e o modelo <strong>464XLAT<\/strong> tornam poss\u00edvel o acesso a recursos IPv4 a partir de redes predominantemente IPv6.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>IPv6-mostly versus IPv6-only<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Uma rede <strong>IPv6-only<\/strong> possui uma caracter\u00edstica arquitetural clara: o host recebe exclusivamente endere\u00e7amento IPv6 e n\u00e3o possui conectividade IPv4 nativa. Quando aplica\u00e7\u00f5es precisam acessar recursos que ainda utilizam IPv4, essa comunica\u00e7\u00e3o ocorre atrav\u00e9s de mecanismos de tradu\u00e7\u00e3o.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>O modelo mais comum para esse cen\u00e1rio \u00e9 o <strong>464XLAT<\/strong> (RFC 6877). Nesse modelo existem dois componentes principais:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>CLAT (Customer-side Translator)<\/strong>, presente no host<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>PLAT (Provider-side Translator) ou NAT64<\/strong>, presente na infraestrutura da rede<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>O CLAT converte tr\u00e1fego IPv4 originado pelas aplica\u00e7\u00f5es em tr\u00e1fego IPv6, que ser\u00e1 posteriormente traduzido para IPv4 pelo NAT64.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>J\u00e1 o conceito de <strong>IPv6-mostly<\/strong>, introduzido pela RFC 8925, possui natureza diferente. Ele n\u00e3o remove o IPv4 da rede nem altera sua arquitetura fundamental. Em vez disso, define uma pol\u00edtica de prefer\u00eancia que incentiva sistemas operacionais e aplica\u00e7\u00f5es a utilizarem IPv6 sempre que poss\u00edvel.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Assim, uma rede IPv6-mostly continua sendo essencialmente <strong>dual-stack<\/strong>, ainda que com pol\u00edticas que favore\u00e7am o uso de IPv6.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Option 108 e a prefer\u00eancia por IPv6<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>A <strong>Option 108<\/strong>, definida na RFC 8925, permite que um servidor DHCPv4 informe aos clientes que a rede prefere que eles operem em modo IPv6-only por um determinado per\u00edodo de tempo.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Entretanto, essa op\u00e7\u00e3o n\u00e3o \u00e9 mandat\u00f3ria. Vers\u00f5es de testes do sistema operacional j\u00e1 demonstram a presen\u00e7a dessa funcionalidade. Atualmente, a rede da Universidade j\u00e1 registra n\u00edveis de utiliza\u00e7\u00e3o superiores a <strong>75% de tr\u00e1fego IPv6<\/strong>, refletindo um ambiente onde o protocolo deixou de ser apenas uma tecnologia experimental e passou a desempenhar papel predominante na conectividade da rede.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Como parte dessa evolu\u00e7\u00e3o, em <strong>2026 foi iniciada um projeto-piloto de ado\u00e7\u00e3o do modelo IPv6-mostly nas redes sem fio da Universidade<\/strong>, com o objetivo de incentivar o uso preferencial de IPv6 pelos dispositivos conectados, mantendo ao mesmo tempo compatibilidade com servi\u00e7os ainda dependentes de IPv4.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Esse tipo de iniciativa tamb\u00e9m reflete uma <strong>tend\u00eancia que vem aparecendo em eventos t\u00e9cnicos internacionais<\/strong>, onde a discuss\u00e3o sobre redes <strong>IPv6-mostly e IPv6-only<\/strong> tem ganhado destaque. Experimentos e relatos operacionais relacionados a esse modelo foram apresentados, por exemplo, no <strong>APRICOT 2024, APNIC 57 e LACNIC44<\/strong>, evidenciando o interesse crescente da comunidade t\u00e9cnica em explorar arquiteturas que reduzam a depend\u00eancia do IPv4.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Esse movimento tamb\u00e9m tem sido observado em outras institui\u00e7\u00f5es acad\u00eamicas.
