Telecentro successfully implemented IPv6 on their networks well before the exhaustion of IPv4 addresses in Latin America and the Caribbean. During LACNIC21, two of the company’s technical experts shared their experience to inspire other operators to do the same.<\/p>\n
Fernando Herrera, Director of Engineering at cable and triple play service provider Telecentro de Argentina, explained how they had convinced the company’s management of the need to deploy the new Internet protocol (IPv6) in order to continue to provide improved services to their customers.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe realized that we needed to deploy and develop IPv6 in order to stay in the business. The project began within the Engineering department and later expanded to the rest of the company,\u201d added Herrera.<\/p>\n
That’s how Telecentro began using IPv6 on its networks \u2013 fueled by a strong internal drive, hand in hand with business decisions and methods for incorporating, for example, IPv6 compatible equipment and training the company’s staff.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe move to IPv6 was also easy for our customers,\u201d noted Alejandro D’Egidio, Head of Engineering at Telecentro. \u201cWhere tests have been conducted, customers perceived our services as very good,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n
LACNIC News interviewed both experts during the Cancun meeting, where they recommended that companies should begin deploying IPv6 right now, as IPv4 is already in its critical phase.<\/p>\n
