These implementations constitute substantial improvements to strengthen Internet routing security across the region.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Routing security played a central role with the presentation of ASPA (Autonomous System Provider Authorization), a new RPKI mechanism. The news was shared by Gerardo Rada, who explained ASPA\u2019s addition to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.lacnic.net\/en\/annoucements\/2026\/a-new-step-to-strengthen-routing-security-in-the-region\">MiLACNIC portal<\/a>, and Jorge Cano, who presented the incorporation of the new version of FORT with support for ASPA.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>What Does ASPA Bring to the RPKI ecosystem? <\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Until now, origin validation allowed verifying through ROA objects if an autonomous system number (ASN) was authorized to originate an IP prefix. ASPA goes one step further. It allows advancing toward path validation of the routes, as Cano, Senior Software Architect in LACNIC, explained in <a href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/YTTa9F-YIRo?t=57\">his presentation<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Through ASPA, ASN holders can formally declare who their authorized transit providers are. Other operators can use this information to check if routing relationships are consistent and detect anomalies such as route leaks or route hijacks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">ASPA does not replace ROA but rather complements it to gradually enable path validation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>FORT Adds Support for ASPA<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Publishing the information is just one part of the process. The other one includes validating it and providing it to the operators so that they can use it in their routing policies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">FORT, the open-source RPKI validator developed by LACNIC, has added support for ASPA validation for that purpose.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">As stated by Jorge Cano, the core feature for ASPA validation was released in July 2026. In parallel, FORT 2.0 includes a more modular architecture, performance improvements, and over 50 optimizations and corrections, while remaining open source.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Simplified Management through MiLACNIC <\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">LACNIC members holding an ASN can already create, configure, and publish their ASPA objects directly through MiLACNIC. The platform allows creating and editing objects individually or in bulk. Additionally, you can check the status and preview the objects before publishing them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">As mentioned by Gerardo Rada in <a href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/YTTa9F-YIRo?t=889\">his presentation<\/a>, this new feature aims to facilitate ASPA adoption and simplify its management by operators.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>ASPA Is Just Getting Started <\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Being an IT infrastructure, the impact of ASPA will depend on how quickly operators across Latin America and the Caribbean adopt this technology.
