From May 25 to 28, Panama will host LACNIC 45<\/a>, the meeting of the Latin American and Caribbean Internet technical community. Over four days, specialists, operators, organizations, and key players in the digital ecosystem will share their experiences, discuss common challenges, and analyze some of the issues that most directly shape the evolution of the Internet in the region.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The program<\/a> will combine technical sessions, panel discussions, and training activities, with a focus on network operations, security, governance, and capacity building.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

What happened at LACNIC44?<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

IPv6: Continue to Advance Without Excuses<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

One of the central themes will be IPv6, not only as part of a transition that still presents challenges, but also as an essential requirement for Internet scalability.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Although IPv6 adoption continues to advance and reach global milestones, technical and operational barriers to accelerating its implementation persist at the regional level. A dedicated panel will bring together the experiences of data centers, ISPs, academia, and operators to share the lessons learned, identify obstacles, and highlight best practices to help drive its deployment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Cybersecurity: Evolving Threats<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Another major theme will be cybersecurity<\/strong>. In the context of increasingly sophisticated threats that include AI-powered abuses and risks to critical infrastructure such as routing, DNS, and IPv6, the panel on current cybersecurity challenges<\/a> will share experiences and recommendations to strengthen prevention, coordination, and response across the ecosystem.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Infrastructure: The Silent Engine Driving the Internet<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The development of digital infrastructure will also feature prominently on the program. A panel of leaders and specialists representing data centers, submarine cables, Internet Exchange Points (IXPs), and Internet Service Providers (ISPs) will explore the trends, challenges, and decisions that are redefining connectivity in Latin America and the Caribbean. The discussion will offer insights into how the infrastructure that supports Internet growth and resilience is evolving in the region.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As for Internet governance<\/strong>, LACNIC 45 will also provide an opportunity to learn about progress in the <\/a>ICP-2 update<\/strong><\/a>, a process that seeks to revise the principles governing the recognition, operation, and potential derecognition of Regional Internet Registries.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As in every edition, the <\/a>Public Policy Forum<\/strong><\/a> will be one of the main spaces for community participation. There, participants will discuss policy proposals for the management of Internet number resources through an open, collaborative, and consensus-based process.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

<\/a>Training and Community: Hands-On Learning<\/strong><\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Technical training will once again take center stage through tutorials on routing security, RPKI, ASPA, IPv6 deployment, and DNS.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

These sessions will provide practical tools for operators and professionals, reinforcing one of the event’s pillars: regional capacity building.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A Space to Think About the Future of the Internet<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

With a broad and diverse program, LACNIC 45 will be a key space for networking, sharing knowledge, and discussing common challenges.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
