In our region, the countries with the highest number of reported incidents have been Brazil, Argentina, Colombia, Peru and Mexico. The data shows that the most common types of attacks continue to be route hijacks, prefix leaks, and bogon announcements, as illustrated in the report.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>These incidents, which affect the stability and reliability of the Internet, could often be avoided with the adoption of good practices by network operators. As part of the event, <a href=\"https:\/\/lacnic43.lacnic.net\/en\">LACNIC 43<\/a> will offer a full day dedicated to these topics on Monday, May 5, to understand why routing incidents occur, what current measures exist to prevent them, and how to implement those solutions in practice.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><a><\/a><strong>BGP Security Tutorial for Network Operators<\/strong><strong><\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/lacnic43.lacnic.net\/en\/programme\/agenda\/tutorials?name=bgp-security-for-network-operators\">The first tutorial of the day<\/a> will focus on understanding routing incidents: what they are, how they occur, and what measures can be taken to prevent them. The tutorial will cover fundamental topics, including RPKI and its modes of operation, and will introduce current best practices for securing routing infrastructure.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Some of the most recent proposals under discussion will also be presented, such as ASPA (Autonomous System Provider Authorization) and BGP roles, along with examples of successful use cases.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>BGP Routing Security Tutorial \u2013 Implementing RPKI in Delegated Mode<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/lacnic43.lacnic.net\/en\/programme\/agenda\/tutorials?name=bgp-routing-security-delegated-rpki-krill\">second morning session<\/a> on the first day of LACNIC 43 will focus on the use of RPKI in its delegated mode and is specially designed for Brazil\u2019s technical community. It will be led by a team of experts from NIC.br. This tutorial will be delivered in Portuguese, with simultaneous interpretation into Spanish and English.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Brazil has significant growth potential when it comes to RPKI adoption, and this training represents a valuable opportunity to move forward in that direction. The tutorial will focus on the use of Krill, a versatile and open-source platform that enables operators to manage their RPKI autonomously, securely, and efficiently. While primarily focused on Brazil, the session offers valuable guidance for any regional operator interested in improving the security of their routing systems.<\/p>\n\n\n<section class=\"acf-view acf-view--id--21788 acf-view--object-id--29446\"><div class=\"acf-view__texto_fijo acf-view__row\"><div class=\"acf-view__texto_fijo-field acf-view__field\"><div class=\"acf-view__texto_fijo-choice acf-view__choice\">Additional reading:<\/div><\/div><\/div><div class=\"acf-view__link acf-view__row\"><div class=\"acf-view__link-field acf-view__field\"><a target=\"_self\" class=\"acf-view__link-link acf-view__link\" href=\"https:\/\/blog.lacnic.net\/en\/lacnic43-networking-ia\/\">LACNIC 43: AI, Internet Standards, and Networking \u2014 All in One Event<\/a><\/div><\/div><\/section>\n\n\n<p><strong>Validation and Automation Lab<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In the afternoon, the focus shifts to practice with a secure <a href=\"https:\/\/lacnic43.lacnic.net\/en\/programme\/agenda\/tutorials?name=secure-routing-and-origin-validation-lab\">routing lab<\/a> in a simulated environment, participants will experience how to configure RPKI validators, implement filtering policies and automate processes related to routing security.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The exercises are designed to replicate real environments, facilitating applied learning. In addition, tools will be shown that allow these configurations to be scaled more efficiently, making it easier to incorporate them into real networks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This day represents another step in LACNIC\u2019s ongoing regional effort to reduce routing incidents. While the number of events remains high, a downward trend and reduced impact have been observed year after year, largely thanks to the growing adoption of preventive measures by network operators. All training sessions will be available both on-site and online, with simultaneous interpretation in Spanish, English, and Portuguese.
