Accepted in June 2001, Internet Coordination Policy 2<\/strong> (ICP-2), establishes the criteria used by ICANN to evaluate applications for the creation of new Regional Internet Registries (RIRs). This document is essential for ensuring the proper functioning of the RIRs, which manage Internet number resources, such as IPv4 and IPv6 addresses and Autonomous System Numbers (ASNs).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In October 2023, the NRO Executive Council (NRO EC) asked the ASO AC\/NRO NC to manage a process to update ICP-2 to ensure that the RIRs adapt to the current challenges of the Internet community.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As the first step in the process, the ASO AC\/NRO NC worked on updating the fundamental principles<\/a> that should govern the operation of the RIRs and which will be included in the new version of ICP-2.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Now, it is up to the community to express their level of support for these principles, as they will guide RIR recognition and organization.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

To facilitate this, a global public consultation<\/a> has been launched. The questionnaire allows participants to rate their level of agreement with the proposed principles and to add comments as they see fit.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As Latin American and Caribbean representatives to the ASO AC, we invite all members of the community to participate in this consultation and take part in this process which is crucial for the future of the RIRs. The consultation will remain open until 19 November 2024.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
