More than 30 representatives of various organizations from around the region participated in the third meeting of Latin American and Caribbean Computer Security Incident Response Teams, held in Montevideo within the framework of the Lacnic 18 – LACNOG 2012 event.<\/p>\n
Promoted by Lacnic\u2019s AMPARO project, the meeting sought to strengthen the generation of knowledge and spaces for sharing information among the actors and agencies directly involved in regional computer security. It also aimed at strengthening knowledge among the region\u2019s stakeholders and promoting the exchange of experiences that will help prevent and mitigate the impact of computer security incidents.<\/p>\n
Participants included CSIRTs, government agencies, academia and private sector representatives.<\/p>\n
Highlights included presentations on monitoring, tracking and data extraction efforts from malicious activities and threats, a topic approached from different points of view by Gonzalo Romero of .CO (Colombia), Cristine Hoepers of NIC.br (Brazil), and Fernando C\u00f3caro of Certuy AGESIC (Uruguay).<\/p>\n
James Pichardo of Dragon Research Group (Dominican Republic) presented on the advantages of sensor selection and their applicability for gathering information aimed at generating better information sharing mechanisms.<\/p>\n
Gustavo Betarte, Director of Tilsor Uruguay’s CSIRT, presented the results of an ongoing research on cybercrime in Latin America.<\/p>\n
The meeting also featured a videoconference with Belisario Contreras (Washington DC), a member of OAS\/CICTE, where he stressed the importance of creating coordination mechanisms for generating shared information that would strengthen and contribute to the creation of CSIRTs in region.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
