LACNIC’s L\u00edderes 2.0 program announced that it has selected 16 winning projects as a result of its call for research proposals on Internet Governance topics including Internet and the Pandemic: Impacts on Human Rights, Digital Inclusion, and Security and Trust.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The winning projects were selected among 45 proposals submitted by members of the community across Latin America and the Caribbean. It is expected that the work of the 16 participants will increase the knowledge on new aspects of Internet Governance in the region.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Kevon Swift, Head of Strategic Relations at LACNIC, stressed that the selection had prioritized geographical diversity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

These are the 16 selected projects:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

– Are We Connecting? Digital Inclusion Beyond Connectivity,<\/em> by Lu\u00edza Couto Chaves Brand\u00e3o (Brazil);<\/p>\n\n\n\n

– Codes of Digital Coexistence: Proper Cybersecurity Habits for Schoolchildren,<\/em> by Noral\u00ed Duin Pic\u00f3n (Panama);<\/p>\n\n\n\n

– Digital Literacy for Inclusion and Active Participation of Young People<\/em>, by Kindy Vereus Montreuil (Haiti);<\/p>\n\n\n\n

– Challenges and strategies for access to information and communication technology, platforms and the Internet by women over 40 in Aguascalientes during the pandemic for working remotely<\/em>, by Ang\u00e9lica Contreras (Mexico);<\/p>\n\n\n\n

– Mapping Cyberbullying Cases and Its Effects on Victims in Haiti, <\/em>by Obed Sindy (Haiti);<\/p>\n\n\n\n

– The Backhaul Barrier: The Greatest Obstruction to an Equitable Internet,<\/em> by Edwin Reed-Sanchez (Nicaragua);<\/p>\n\n\n\n

– Current Status of Data Encryption in Nicaragua<\/em>, by Oscar Danilo Gonz\u00e1lez Navarrete (Nicaragua); and<\/p>\n\n\n\n

 – Lessons Learned for the Continuity of Education During the COVID-19 Pandemic<\/em>, by Hector Maida (El Salvador).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Mentors and publication. <\/strong>In addition to receiving funds to conduct their research over the course of three months, each successful applicant will be supported by Raquel Gatto, Nigel Cassimire, Miguel Ignacio Estrada, Kevon Swift and Paula Oteguy, who will serve as mentors for the L\u00edderes 2.0 program.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The final papers will be submitted by 17 February and will then be published on the Lideres Program section of LACNIC’s website.<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n
