LACNIC\nhas launched a section on its website dedicated to\nsharing information for Law Enforcement Agencies<\/a> to\ncooperate with them in their response to the growth of cybercrime and other\nmalicious actions. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

LACNIC\nhas been working in coordination with LEAs to address public security issues,\nthus fulfilling its responsibility as a critical player within the Internet\necosystem. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

This\ninitiative is part of the vision shared by LACNIC, the other RIRs and LEAS of\nadopting a systemic approach to Internet cybersecurity issues.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“We\nunderstand the complexity of transnational crimes such as almost all the\ncybercrimes we encounter. For this reason, LACNIC CSIRT seeks to find\ncommon issues on which to work and generate synergies among the stakeholders of\nthe Internet ecosystem and the security teams of governments and entities of\nthe region dedicated to cybersecurity,” commented Kevon Swift, Head of\nStrategic Relations and Integration at LACNIC, and Graciela Martinez, Head of\nLACNIC CSIRT.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The\nexperts also added that LACNIC is prepared to cooperate with the LEAs in\nmatters of investigations and legal proceedings that are within its capacity as\na RIR.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In\nthis sense, LACNIC has organized meetings with LEA officials and\nrepresentatives during its annual events so as to promote better cooperation\namong authorities, the information security community and the different\nInternet stakeholders.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Also,\nin its role as an intermediary with these law enforcement agencies, LACNIC\nCSIRT<\/a> has helped interpret the public\ndata of LACNIC member organizations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Both\ncollaborators pointed out that LACNIC does not have the authority to act on the\noperations of its community’s systems, nor does it have the jurisdiction to\nblock any websites even if these involve Internet resources under the\nadministration of its member organizations. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
