{"id":13277,"date":"2020-05-06T15:06:05","date_gmt":"2020-05-06T15:06:05","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/prensa.lacnic.net\/news?p=13277"},"modified":"2020-05-06T15:06:06","modified_gmt":"2020-05-06T15:06:06","slug":"chairman-of-the-lacnic-board-highlights-transparency-of-the-organization","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blog.lacnic.net\/en\/chairman-of-the-lacnic-board-highlights-transparency-of-the-organization\/","title":{"rendered":"Chairman of the LACNIC Board Highlights Transparency of the Organization"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>The Chairman of the LACNIC Board of\nDirectors, Warder Maia, highlighted the transparency of the organization\nresponsible for managing Internet number resources for Latin America and the\nCaribbean and explained that all its resolutions and minutes are available to\nthe community <a href=\"https:\/\/www.lacnic.net\/753\/2\/lacnic\/transparency\">on the Regional Internet Registry&#8217;s website.<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>During his presentation at LACNIC 33,\nMaia expressed his gratitude for the high number of participants on the first\nday of activities of LACNIC&#8217;s first online event, adding that once the health\nemergency is over there will be time to organize a face-to-face meeting with\n\u201cfriends and community members\u201d of the region. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The director commented on the\ndifferent forms of work implemented by the Board during 2019, with nine annual\nremote meetings and three face-to-face meetings, two of them during LACNIC&#8217;s\nannual events and the third at the closing of the year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He also noted that, in 2019, the\nBoard of Directors devoted time and effort to make sure that the organization&#8217;s\nparticipation spaces are inclusive and safe and thus favor a broad and diverse\nexchange of ideas. He stressed that, last year, the Board worked on the\ncreation of documents containing LACNIC&#8217;s Transparency Guideline and the LACNIC\nCommunity Code of Conduct. In this sense, Maia observed that transparency is\none of the key values of LACNIC, which is why the organization does its best to\nfacilitate access to the information it generates.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In his <a href=\"https:\/\/www.lacnic.net\/innovaportal\/file\/4521\/1\/informe-anual-de-actividades-del-directorio-2019-maia.pdf\">presentation<\/a>, the chairman of the\nLACNIC Board mentioned two resolutions adopted by the organization during 2019:\nits <a href=\"https:\/\/www.lacnic.net\/4138\/2\/lacnic\/unintended-consequences-of-website-blocking\">positioning on website blocking<\/a><strong> <\/strong>and the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.lacnic.net\/4283\/2\/lacnic\/lacnic-board-calls-on-the-community-to-promote-ipv6-deployment\">positioning of LACNIC for the\nacceleration of IPv6 deployment.<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>With the Community<\/strong>. Laura Kaplan, Head of\nDevelopment and Cooperation at LACNIC, presented a report on the organization&#8217;s\nactions with the regional community. In this report, she highlighted the\nidentification and removal of obstacles for the full participation of women in\nIT in LACNIC events, the restructuring of the FRIDA program with a new focus on\nInternet stability and security, and the presentation of a book titled \u201cLACNIC\nCommunity Development\u201d together with other regional organizations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The full sessions are available <a href=\"https:\/\/www.lacnic.net\/4609\/55\/evento\/videos\">here<\/a>.
