LACNIC 33<\/a>, the first online event organized by\nthe Regional Internet Registry (RIR) for Latin America and the Caribbean, kicked\noff with more than 1,380 registered participants from 26 different countries of\nthe region. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The meeting will continue throughout the week via the Zoom platform and will maintain the spirit that has characterized LACNIC’s annual meetings since its first major event in 2003. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\"\"<\/figure>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWe were looking forward to sharing\nthis event as planned (Cali) and hope that everyone is going through the global\nhealth emergency as best as possible. LACNIC is honored by your participation this\nweek,\u201d noted Macarena Segal, the event’s master of ceremonies, during her\nopening remarks before the LACNIC 33 IPv6 tutorial.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

IPv6 addresses. <\/strong>Monday’s agenda included a\nbroad and intensive tutorial on \u201cIPv6 Network Operation<\/a>\u201d (in Spanish) presented\nby Alejandro Acosta<\/a>, Uesley Correa<\/a> and Jorge Cano<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

During their presentations, the three\ninstructors shared the theory and practical information on the development of\nIPv6 in the region, network operation in IPv6, and the mechanisms for\ntransitioning from IPv4 to IPv6. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Acosta, who coordinated the tutorial,\nstressed that it is essential to increase the use of the IPv6 resources\nassigned by LACNIC to its members. The good news, he added, is that IPv6\npenetration in Latin America reached 22.97% in April. Likewise, he encouraged\noperators and LACNIC members to implement IPv6 without fear. \u201cThere are more\nIPv6 addresses than stars in the universe,\u201d Acosta noted. In turn, Correa observed\nthat regional operators who have not yet deployed IPv6 and begin to take steps\ntowards implementation still have time to do a good job.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Finally, Cano shared information on various\ntransition mechanisms, especially Jool, a tool that has become a great\nfacilitator of the transition from IPv4 to IPv6. This novel technology\ndeveloped by NIC Mexico and TEC Monterrey allows communication between IPv4\nnodes and IPv6 nodes without interrupting Internet access for users.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Comprised of 493 unique participants,\nthe audience had many questions for the instructors, and this led to an\nenriching sharing of knowledge. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
